How to Correctly Tie a Tie
In today’s society, learning to tie a tie is almost a right of passage into manhood. Many adults, however, still do not know how to correctly tie a tie. Here are some tips for tying a tie to help you become the best dressed employee in the office.
Start by placing both sides of the tie around the neck so that the wider part falls on the right side of the body and the thin part on the left side. The wider part should extend past the waist by a few inches and the tip of the thin part of the tie should be half the length.
Next, take the entire wide part of the tie and pull over the thinner part. Now, wrap around a second time and you should see a knot starting to form as well as a v-shaped gap. Pull the wide part of the tie through the gap and over the knot. Place the tie through the knot and pull all the way through. Pull the knot upwards to tighten it and simultaneously pull the tie down to the desired length. Now, the back part of the tie should be slightly smaller than wider part of the tie. Place the thin part of the tie through the back loop to prevent it from showing. A tie should not extend more than several inches past the waistline.
Knowing how to take care of a tie is as important as knowing how to tie it. Always hang ties on racks as opposed to folding them or placing them in a drawer and remove a tie the same way it was put on.
These were some helpful hints on how to be more successful at tying a tie so that you, too, can dazzle all the co-workers tomorrow.
